Aztec Clay Mask

Aztec Clay Mask

The Best All Natural Mask EVER!

I’m sure if you’re apart of any make up group you have heard of this magical, amazing, heaven mud; but if you’re not, let me explain! This stuff is literally a jar of dirt. No really, I’m serious. It is a product of Death Valley, Nevada and it is 100% natural calcium bentonite (green) clay. I purchased the big container (thank you crowtap) off of Amazon for $13! Now, of course you don’t need the biggest one there is, this stuff goes a long way, so the smaller container is $10. The secret to this clay, is to use it with apple cider vinegar. The instructions say you can use it with water, but the clay alone won’t remove acne causing bacteria. The vinegar has antimicrobial properties that help kill off  propionibacterium acne bacteria on the skin. Plus, after reading reviews, when you mix the powder clay with water, it becomes very chunky and hard to work with.

The instructions for this stuff are a bit extreme! They advise to use a 1/4 to 1/2 inch on your face. I’ll tell you right now, it is almost impossible to achieve this. I usually take out about 2 table spoons of the powder and just add the vinegar until it is at the thick, clay consistency. After it is applied, the jar suggest leaving it on for 15-20 (5-10 for sensitive skin) and let it sit. Now, if left it on for longer as an experimentDON’T. It was extremely difficult to remove and I had brake out city on my chin. The label also warns of a pulling sensation and the possibility of red skin afterwards. The pulling sensation is just because the clay is drying to your face. Nothing to really be alarmed about; just avoid facial movements because the clay will crack and fall off of your face. The redness is obviously because of the vinegar, but it really didn’t affect me all that much. Your face may also pulsate; I didn’t feel this, but it’s on the label so I’ll include it ha. Once your time is up, it does become a challenge to remove. I tried to remove it in the sink the first time but it was a mess so I have found that getting in the shower is easiest. The clay will melt off your face with warm water and go down the drain. Just remember it is clay going down your drain. I had to unclog my bath drain because it was thick. Once your drain is clear, just let the water continue to run (maybe while you finish showering) just to make sure nothing gets stuck. After if it removed, I recommend using a moisturizer. Possibly two if you have it. The mask can be very drying and throw your skins oil production off (as with any cleansing product). So be generous with the moisturizer. I even use Tarte’s Maracuja Oil before I put on my moisturizer just to get some hydration.

I have used this product three times now so I think I have used it enough to decide whether or not I like it. So far, it is love. My skin is very touchy, not sensitive but new products often cause problems for my skin. Besides the mishap with leaving it on for too long, this product has not given me any reason to not be in love. Just make sure you follow the directions and do not use more than once a week due to dryness and stripping your skin of everything it needs. I hope you love this product as much as I do if you do decide to give it a try.
